DH and I both work outside the home. I am a teacher and he is in sales, although luckily he doesn't have to travel much. One child who is almost 3. DH does most of the shopping and I supplement with quick Trader Joes or Whole Foods runs. Cooking is much easier for us when the weather is nice because we grill a lot. DH grills while I make a salad or roast some veggies. Dinners are simple. If we get home late, it's breakfast for dinner. Scrambled eggs, toast and fruit. We eat out or get takeout 1-2x/week. Usually 1 weekday and 1 weekend night. DH usually picks DS up from daycare, so I try to make it home before them to get dinner started. We try to keep on top of tidying daily, so there's not a huge amount to do all at once. When we moved to our current house, we got rid of a lot of our clutter and try to keep the clutter out of the house. We have lots of baskets and bins for specific things so there is always a place for everything. We hire a cleaning service monthly for a deep clean. Sometimes DH takes DS to his weekend classes by himself (we usually go together) so I can do bigger projects like cleaning out/organizing closets. I do a load of laundry almost every night after DS goes to bed. However, the clean laundry goes right into our guest bedroom, which I call our laundry holding room. It piles up there until the weekend when DH and I fold it all while DS naps. Working out has been tough. My goal is to work out outside the home 2x/week. One day a week I go in to work early so that I can leave work on time and take a class right after work. I take the 2nd class on a weekday morning while DH takes DS out to breakfast. That doesn't happen if we have birthday parties or playdates though. I try to supplement with weights at home and we take long walks together on the weekends. I need to increase my workout schedule. After dinner, I usually take DS to the playground while DH cleans up dinner. DS goes to bed at 8pm, I make lunch for the next day and then DH and I tidy up and then we do some work while we watch TV. I try to make 9:00-10:00 just relaxation time before bed because I just really need that downtime. If I'm really tired, I'll just go to bed at 9:30. There is very little pure downtime, but we get through it by not sweating the small stuff. We only get a few hours a day with DS during the week, so we don't use that time for chores. When I get caught up thinking about chores (I can tend to be a clean freak), I try to think big picture and how I'll feel years from now about how I chose to spend my time. That usually helps me to keep my perspective when I feel stressed by everything I *could* be doing.
