I'm 6:25 and we take our DC to local shows too, or when we are traveling as a family. It's more about the travel aspect and sending DC with one other parent. I think kids should have things to look forward to, and traveling to a pop concert with another family is one of those things. And I fully realize I'm in the minority in this, but I don't think 9 YOs need to do what teens were doing a generation or two ago, or that 11 YOs need to use social media, etc.
I'm the NKOTB poster above, and I completely agree- I don't even see how those issues are linked. Enjoying a concert is just different to me than these other things. But maybe that's because my family always went to concerts together- think places like Wolftrap or Patriot Center, from early ages. Its still something we tend to cluster our visits around or we will travel together for a music event even and we often give concert tix as gifts (we are talking kids in their 30s, parents near 60). So I think this issue of "hell no" might just depend on how you see the act of going to concerts- if its a sort of teenage rite of passage, then I guess I can see why some would equate that to doing other teenage things like social media, etc. But for many its just not like that, its more of a lifelong sort of interest/hobby.
