There's more to consider than the latest GreatSchools ratings when deciding where to live, as much as some of you would like to pretend otherwise.

Anyway, George Mason and McLean are considered more desirable than Marshall.  Check the real estate listings if you have any doubt on that score; the number of listings highlighting that a house is zoned for FCC schools or McLean is far greater than the number highlighting that a home is zoned for Marshall.  Does that mean it's "not good"?  Who knows - guess it depends on who you ask. [/quote]
It's true that GM High and McLean High are seen as more desirable than Marshall.  Marshall is also seen as way more desirable than FC High or Stuart and I would say that the gap between McLean and Marshall is smaller than between Marshall and FC High.   If you're zoned for Marshall and want AP, you can pupil place into McLean.[/quote]

If you live in Pimmit Hills/Idylwood and want AP, you'd go to McLean.  If you live in the part of Vienna zoned for Marshall and want AP, you'd go to Madison.   Some of the areas south of 66 zoned to Marshall, however, are closer to Falls Church than any other AP school.  It ultimately depends on the specific address.
