I would want to say something but I'm not sure I would know what to say. It just seems so obvious.
Here is the thing. It bothers you. Say something. If the teacher rolls her eyes at you behind your back, who cares? The teacher may say, "You know, we discussed that and the reason it was cast this way was because none of the girls wanted to be the only one not in a dress..and we had to use last year's costumes." I am 95% sure you will be asked if you'd like to volunteer for the next play, and add you influence. If nobody says, "This doesn't sit well with me," then next year they will think it is always fine. FYI, I am a teacher and a parent. It would not have bothered me as a parent. If one of my parents asked me about it, I'd take it under consideration, or try to get more buy in next time. It also helps the teacher to understand that they have parents who DO care about these issues, so they have a read on the community in which they teach. Go for it. Keep it light if you have doubts. Also, ask your kid what they thought about the split.
