Crofton is even blander than Bowie and it will be the "new" Bowie in 10 years....and then all scared Crofton-ites will move to Millersville and Crownsville.
Ha ha! Totally true. In fact, I think the new shopping has drawn people to Crofton that the current Crofton-ites moved there to get away from. And so it goes...
Agree completely. I graduated from Bowie High School in 1999. At that time, it wasn't a terrible school and the elementary schools were great. Many families had SAHMs with dad working in government, because it was an affordable place to live. Bowie was the one predominantly white part of Prince George's County at the time. Things quickly changed and I do not blame the "browning" of Bowie on the schools' demise, as many of the families moving in were certainly solidly middle class families. The system is fraught with many problems and hopefully the new leadership will bring about some change. Elementary schools in Bowie are still decent. Middle and High is debatable. My parents still live there in a neighborhood that is family oriented, well cared for and welcoming to all. Many of the parents of my high school friends fled to Crofton, Millersville or Crownsville and if they couldn't afford it, they went down south, to Calvert or St. Mary's Counties. They couldn't bear to live in such a black place, even with no school age children. Joke's on them, because now their commutes are abysmal. The Crownsville people are staring down a 2 hour commute to the district, compared to the 45 minutes during heavy rush our from Bowie (plus accessibility to New Carrollton Metro).
