Another vote for Wool (and the sequels, shift and dust). Just read them. Fantastic.
The complete Wool 1 - 5 is on sale right now on Audible for $1.99!
Not OP. Would this be okay to listen to in the car with my 10-year old, not easily creeped out, child?
I may get flamed for saying so, but I think it would probably be fine. It doesn't have vampires or supernatural creatures. It's more about the evil of mankind. In some ways, like The Giver for grown-ups. Do you remember the story The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson? It has similar themes to that, too. I don't recall the books being full of bad language, either, although there may be some. Divergent is really very poorly written. Like to the point of being pretty awful. I cannot imagine sitting through an audible book of it. The Passage and The Twelve were great; I was surprised how much I liked them and even got my mom hooked. She bugs me every few months about when the third in the trilogy is due out as if I have any idea!
