Subjecting your child to an unnecessary surgery that he cannot consent to, as well. Risking infection, improper healing, a botched surgery that can cause pain and dysfunction...

Cutting half the skin?  It is a flap of skin, and the foreskin is not sensitive.  You can argue that having the head exposed reduced sensitivity...I do not know the answer.  Having had multiple major surgeries, circumcision is not really surgery....you are removing a bit of loose skin.  You are not cutting into flesh.

I am circumcised -- religious reasons.  If I had a boy, they would be circumcised.

The reason why the Torah mandates circumcision is probably hygienic --  if you look at most of the rules in the Torah, [b]they make sense from a sanitary perspective 2500 years ago.  [/b]

Circumcision is more sanitary...It of course is possible to clean the penis such that it is just as clean, but any time you have moist skin covering other moist skin, you can have various infections: bacterial, fungal, and yeast. [/quote]

Lots of things were done differently 2500 years ago, should we follow all those wildly outdated practices?

And to those that are not Jewish or Muslim, it's not even mandated by your religion.  Why so up in arms about other people's choices?
