seriously you spend a total of $45k to live onwhen you make $450k??? And less than $2k on everything besides rent. Do you not have cable, internet, etc? or do you eat ramen when not at michenlin restaurants? I'm just curious... not slamming trying to find out if we are doing something wrong since our food budget alone is 50% of your total everything else!
No cable, have Netflix/internet. We have smartphones on a Ting plan. My work covers my data, but since our total bill is under $40 it doesn't make a huge difference. We try to cook ourselves (order a CSA box each week). I live within a half mile of the office, SO takes public transportation to get to work. Thus, we don't drive a lot and only have 1 car. One day a few years ago, I took a long hard look at my financial picture and decided to just start cutting things that either a) took a huge chunk out of my budget or b) wasn't important to me. At the time, I was living alone and paying $35K a year in rent. Decided to get a roommate and cut rent to a third of that. That was the start and just kept tightening things up. Tracking spending was a huge help.
We live the same way only buy what we need, spend on a nice dinner or vacation every now and then. Income isn't even half yours, so won't have as sweet a retirement or buy a house with cash later. Good job, keep it up.
