Not sure what your thought process is in choosing schools here, but those schools have very different identities and curriculums. Emory is a world class liberal arts/medical/research university in the heart of ATL. GT is a world class engineering/architecture/science research school. My dad, GT EE', used to claim that MIT was a safety school for kids who could not get into Tech. (wink). GT is a classic state school within the ACC, football, basketball, greek life etc. The campus is downtown and while not Charlottesville, or Athens, it is urban and funky. There are not a lot of students that would be comfortable at both.
My DC is thinking of a possible career in medical research, which is why any school with a strong science department (not aiming for engineering) is currently under consideration. Definitely will need to look more closely, but Biochem major at Emory may not be humongously different from biochem major at GT...thought was to find a school at which DC is socially comfortable, not excessively stressed, but can't party away the first 4 yrs of undergrad...lol. Really looking for a school where most youngsters finish in fewer than 5 yrs, too
