And we saw Bates' forgery skills at the beginning of the season, when he forged Molesley's signature on a fake IOU so Bates could give him some money without Molesley losing face.  I find Bates kind of interesting because his misdeeds are very much a "means justify the ends" approach, and otherwise he's a good guy, but with a dark side.[/quote]

I wonder if Mr. Greene stumbled into the street after ingesting a lick of rat poisoning.  Hmmm, and also wonder what Bates thought he may have left in his coat pocket.  He sure seems cautious of Mrs. Hughes and Mary now.[/quote]
