I hear that HW will no longer be an AAP center. The program will be phased out so that there will be no 3rd grade AAP class next year, no 4th the following year, etc. So, the existing AAP kids get to finish out elementary at HW, but no new AAP kids will be starting there.
This was the original plan, but they have no place else to put the Waples kids next year, so that plan, as far as I've heard, is on hold indefinitely. The School Board, in particular Pat Hynes of the Hunter Mill district, wants Waples kids out of HW, but there is no other school that can accommodate them. Admin at HW is great and says they will gladly teach whoever walks through their doors. Long term, Waples kids will probably be out of HW (note that the new CIP calls for a new ES that might draw from Waples Mill, Oakton and Providence, but I think this will be long after most of our kids are out of elementary school), but I think Garza is focusing more on budget and less on AAP adjustments right now. I imagine the school board knew this would happen and that's why there was the big push to shuffle the entire AAP before she arrived.
