The sad thing is that we 'think' we're egalitarian. But, the people who are actually 'privileged' aren't subjected to the mediocrity of public education. They can afford the best schools, where creativity and achievement are valued. There is a (good) reason why Obama's girls don't go to public school! So, we pretend to be 'egalitarian', but that is not really the case.
Actually, we pretend to be egalitarian about public schools, but in reality, poor kids receive a much worse public education than rich kids. http://www.ascd.org/publications/educational-leadership/dec92/vol50/num04/On-Savage-Inequalities@-A-Conversation-with-Jonathan-Kozol.aspx Unless you think that all of the best schools are private schools? And I'm pretty sure that the reason why Obama's girls don't go to public school is because there's no way that the public school could deal with the privacy and security requirements. Which other people's girls (mine, for example) don't have.
