You need a dentist who does light sedation. He/she will give you Valium the night before your appointment and the day of. You will also be given nitrous oxide during your dental procedure. Look on Angie's List to find a good Also I would avoid a dentist who takes HMO's or other crappy insurance. Most dentists who are really good are fee for service. Good luck!
Wow. You really think only the money grabbers are good?
When it comes to my health I only want the best. Sometimes the best is not cheap.
Fair enough, but that isn't the point. The point is that to assume that not taking insurance is an indicator of quality (to the point that those who do accept it are to be avoided) is a pretty narrow minded approach. In my experience, the best doctors are those who view their profession not exclusively from a profit perspective, and deal with the hassle of insurance in order to serve a broader part of their community. Not every doctor who takes insurance does so because they can't get enough patients who pay OOP. The only dentist who hasn't been trying to sell me unnecessary procedures (unnecessary by the judgment of a dentist friend) was one who accepted insurance, including HMOs.
