Go ahead and flame me, but I'm on the fence about public/private as we are in a good Moco district, but our kid is shy and withdraws in large groups. Developmentally fine (of course we think she's brilliant, but we'll see). We really can't afford the Big 3, but probably won't qualify for aid. We can probably do max about $22k/year without being wildly irresponsible. We're looking for K right now. I am aware of Primary Day, Stone Ridge, and the local parish parochial schools, but wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything. We're in close-in Bethesda, so open to Bethesda, NWDC, etc. Our ideal fantasy schools would be very warm and nurturing socially, not too big, and challenging academically. TIA
Getting to this a bit late so you may already have decided. We were in the same boat. Shy but smart, looking for nutruing place with great academics and a real community feel. We looked at Christ Episcopal School in Rockville and when we toured it we were sold. Tuition is around $16,000. Not sure if Rockville (near Town Square) is convenient but if there's a possibility that it could work, give it a look. Our shy one has blossomed in short time there.
