My coworker on the other side of the cubicle used to cough all day long, this horrible phlegmy chesty cough. She'd talk on the phone to clients, and either be coughing or rasping her way through the call with a phlegmy voice and I just wanted to scream "clear your throat!" I don't know what was worse, the coughing, or the talking with that frog in her throat. She did have allergies, and had pills to take. She knew it bothered me, but didn't know the extent to which it made me crazy. And I tried to frame it like "you poor thing, you're coughing so much today! Did you take your allergy pill? Hopefully your medication will make you feel a little better." I too was sympathetic but aggravated.

OTOH another coworker would snort and snuffle too, just like you described (actively sucking in snot). She was a terror to work with in general. I heard her, more than once, laugh about how annoying her sniffling was, and what a kick she was getting out of irritating a certain coworker who complained.   [/quote]
