Why is it crazy for someone to want to be around other people who speak the same language and are of the same culture?
I find it annoying because it means those people essentially become dead to us (an Anglo family) socially. Playdate and other invitations are ignored, attempts at engaging in conversation are ignored, etc.
I am not Filipino, but I have lived in southern California, which has a substantial Filipino population. In my experience, Filipinos were always very friendly, engaging, and outgoing toward the "Anglos" (your term), Chinese, Armenians, Mexicans, Persian/Iranians, no different than anyone else, really, in that respect. In some metropolitan areas, like Los Angeles, the different ethnicities, cultures, and nationalities are both more integrated and still have well-defined cultural enclaves.
