So weird how others think they can dictate how others choose to live their lives. So because you don't have a TV at home (or don't like the noise for whatever reason) everyone should shut theirs off when you come over? Really?
Not dictating. Just letting you know why we hate going to your house. :-P
Are you that intolerant that you can't suck it up for a few hours? Some folks enjoy a lively get-together; others a more bookstore/cafe experience. Enjoy them each for what they are and then go back home to what you personally enjoy.
Yes, if you have the TV on when I am over there, then I am thinking, "Why'd you invite anyone over in the first place? You could have just watched TV by yourself if that is so important to you!" But more to the point, this thread was originally when you go to grandma's house, or another relative's house, so, presumably, you are visiting there for a couple of days, when the annoyance for this type of thing is more cumulative, and builds up over a couple of days. Not just a few hours. Yeah, I can handle it for a few hours, but hopefully, you are aiming for a higher experience for your guests than just asking they barely tolerate your hospitality, and get through it by biting their tongue! I do do that, but then I go home afterwards and think, "Whew! Why didn't they just turn off the tube!??!?!?" and post about it here on DCUM. :P And prob. think once or twice before another invitation if we don't see eye to eye on something which you apparently think is pretty important!
