The point being made with Anacostia is that jts because a neighborhood has million dollar homes does not mean that it has great schools. And just because a school has children with high test scores doesn't mean it is a great school. Student success is highly correlated with parent income and education. Whitman does not have any control or effect on that. The 4 W schools all have 1 thing in common..high family incomes..not better teachers or small classes or even a different curriculum. I do not think for a minute that if I took my RM student and sent him to Whitman, he would be any different educationally than he is now.
I agree. None of the students succeeding in any school are doing so because of the curriculum or the quality of teachers. Get real. There is a parallel system of education existing outside of MCPS. Parents are pouring thousands of dollars over coaching, and tutoring and enrichment from the time these kids are born. Those who are educated and have the money and value education - their kids will do well. Most of the Asian kids in MCPS belong to this category. Their parents are educated and spend money on their education.
