I frankly find it more difficult to take a candidate seriously after they send a thank you note, but I'm also in an extremely competitive profession that values confidence and, let's be honest, thank you notes rarely come off as confident. Polite, yes, but confident, definitely not. And if they are awkward they can flat out detract from any sense of competence I felt about the interviewee. That being said, I wouldn't outright reject someone because they sent a thank you note. The thank you email really annoys me, though, because it puts people in the awkward position of feeling like they have to respond, which I find sort of passive aggressive.[/quote]
