OP here. I'm I guess what people would call a "goth". I've toned my look down a lot and am not OTT now. I've worn all black for the past 25 years. I wear mostly long black skirts and black tunics/tops. My DS will be starting school soon, and my husband wants me to stop wearing all black, change my hair style, and take out my nose ring, because he says he's afraid other kids will make fun of DS for having a "freaky mom". He's also afraid that other parents will be put off by me. Do you think he's right?
Still goth? I'm sorry but wearing a look that was sketchy in the first place and now many years out of date. Unfortunately it says EMO. (Not the fashion style) Time for a change.
OP. Wear what you are comfortable with as I'm a big believer that you shouldn't change who you are in order to "fit in". That said, yes there will be parents who are put off by you by sight alone. And there is a chance that there will be a kid or two who says your DS has a "freak mom". Unfortunately that is the world we live in. But would you want to be friends with those parents who judge you by what you're wearing alone and dont even bother to get to know you? And do you want your son to be friends with kids who go around calling other kids' moms freaks? Probably not. However, if after a month or so and you see that your look is having a negative impact on DS (he's being teased because of you or parents don't want to have playdates because they are put off by you) then maybe you can reevaluate the situation.
