After requesting that my new neighbor not play her music at full volume all night because the walls are very thin she responded that she "hadn't wanted to live next door to white people". I was stunned into silence. I wondered why she moved in next door to us if she was so against living next to white people. (She was black).
Black Culture 101: Don't mess with black people when it comes to their music. However, she does sound like a rude, inconsiderate, bigot. Just crank up some Linkin Park or Led Zepplin to give her a taste of her own medicine. Since she hates white people anyway it really doesn't matter what you do at this point.
This is NOT UNIVERSAL. I'm AA and absolutely hate my AA neighbor who blasts rap music so loudly it rattles my floors. And she's offended that I'm "not down" or "not cool" and don't like it and prefer that my 4 yr old DC doesn't hear it. I actually often think the exact reverse of the person quoted above. I think: "This is why I never wanted to live around blacks." I know I'm not supposed to say it, it's some betrayal of my people or whatever, but there it is. Not all of us like that misogynist, profane banging stuff that passes for music these days.
You realize that you contradicted yourself. If it is not universal, which is what you started out saying, then why do you think this is why you don't want to live next door to black people? Wouldn't it be more accurate to say, "This is why I didn't want to live next door to people who play loud, obscene music"???
19:01 here, you're right, I don't want to live next door to people who play loud, obscene music. I also don't want to live next to people who assume that because we have the same skin color I'm obligated to like/tolerate music they think all people of that same skin color like, eat food they think people of that skin color eat, etc. Since I am AA, for me that means AA/black people. And I'm not saying my thoughts are politically correct, or even correct. I'm saying, it's what I think when I'm annoyed by the music. My other next door neighbor, who is very sweet, has an upstairs neighbor who is unbelievably loud when he's having sex. She's written untold nice notes and finally confronted this guy in the parking lot asking him to be more discreet, but no dice, he loves that someone bears witness to his "prowess." She often says, "This is why I don't like living next to damn single men." Does that mean she thinks all single men are loud and inconsiderate when they have sex? Probably not.
You have some serious issues. You're probably a nightmare to have as a neighbor too. Psycho neighbors are now at the top of my list as the most annoying neighbors to avoid.
