Not to rain on your parade, but...yeah, she should've been confronted 7 years and 11 months ago.  Not so you could have the pleasure of cutting her dead, but so that 1) she would've had the opportunity to build a better relationship with your family; 2) you would've avoided 8 years of frustration; 3) it wouldn't have blown up in such a painful and ugly way; and 4) there wouldn't be such serious damage to the relationships within your family.  She was toxic, but she didn't hold a gun to anyone's head (as far as I know).  You guys could've been adults about this much earlier and done the difficult work of drawing boundaries way back before this got all out of hand.

I get the instinct to celebrate that someone who has caused you pain is now hurting, and I think you're making the right decision now to celebrate the holidays without her, but please try to keep in mind that members of your family are hurting.  They contributed to this situation, but so did everyone who didn't do the right thing 8 years ago, including you.  So maybe tone down all the glee, ok?[/quote]
