I am a PTA officer at a red zone school and our principal is very careful to guide is so that we don't do things that benefit only kids that can afford them.  We give equity a lot of thought and I think the PTA and the school is the better for it.  We charge much lower dues than what's been mentioned here, and we manage, through dues and fundraisers, to put together a lot of enriching activities, support teacher grants, help kids who can't afford field trips etc.  We don't have a directory at all and to my knowledge it's not missed.

I think the Westland PTA could produce a directory as a fundraiser, sell it for $10 or whatever, and avoid the whole appearance of elitism.
