LOL if you think only rich kids play lax, maybe you should step outside the DC bubble. You ever been to one of the hot beds of lax upstate NY. FAR from rich buddy. I grew up and played there. Blue collar kids and maybe that's why so many of these kids are so good. Public school kids who are not rich all over New York play lacrosse and beat the crap out of private schools.
Exactly. The negative posters on this thread need to get out a little bit more. The sport is exploding in popularity because it is being made availabe to all economic strata, both in inner cities and country high schools. And the notion that only rich white kids play is ridiculous, go or watch a game on TV and you'll see. Lacrosse teams (youth rec, high school, and club) emphasize character, integrity, and high academic achievment. And that's not lip service, the coaches will yank a player for failure to demonstrate good behavior on or off the field. The unfortunate actions of a few in recent years has tainted the overall perception of lacrosse players, but the players and coaches today are working hard to dispell the myth.
This may be true in Upstate NY but not in the MD/VA/DC area. I've seen plenty of examples of poor character and behavior. Lacrosse players are not known for being the top academics in the class. Never once have I seen HS coaches yank kids for poor behavior off the field. It is usually admin that has to do it. Yes there are a few examples of lacroose kids who are good students but in many cases it is the lacrosse part that gets these kids into princeton, harvard, cornell, duke etc. If they did not get recruited, they never would get in to these schools.
