OP here, thanks! We LOVE Maddux, but think our child might be ready for a mainstream school for kindergarten.
Maddux is mainstream. If my kid was 100% typical and could handle the busiest public school and excel but I had the money for Maddux, I would still pick Maddux.
It's chartered as a mainstream school but don't fool yourself. Parents send their kid to Maddux for a reason and it's not b/c the kid is 100% typical.
I got that impression when I went to their open house. Most of the time, the lady was emphasizing how mainstream they were. She made it sound like it was for a child with 0 behavior issues, almost 0 language issues, and just a little shy. I might be exaggerating a little, but not much. Plus, she said that a lot of the SN kids had typical siblings going to the school.
Did she say how many "typical" kids they have? Sounds like Maddux is positioning itself as a SN lite school. Too bad since those kids will do just as well going to PAC... Anyone have exmissions data for Maddux?
Isnt PAC fairfax's SN preschool? I don't think maddux gets many kids from fairfax bc of its location. Plus, it goes beyond preschool. Only 15 or so kids graduate from maddux each year, so exmissions information wouldnt tell you anything. It varies from year to year, but a mix of SN schools like lab, public schools with or without IEPs, and mainstream but not cutthroat private schools.
