I am shocked at how many of you actually still have desktops. That is pretty old school.
I would rather have a desktop with large screen, real mouse and keyboard than a tiny thing that I'm probably not going to move around very much. But then we have 1 computer in the house, 0 TVs and 0 smart phones (good old flip phones). And we're scientists and rather tech-savvy. Just do not feel the need for a whole of technology in the house. Shocking!
Our youngest DC got his laptop in 6th grade. That way he could have his text to speach and word prediction software at school at and home on the same computer. SHocking! I know to have a child that actually needs a computer. But seriously, kids need computer to access schoolwork and do homework these days. If you have more than one child and they do their homework at the same time, like my children, then you need more than one computer. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.
My oldest will enter 3rd grade, so does not need a computer - I was responding particularly to the "shocked at how many of you actually still have desktops" post, as well as 7 year olds being offered computers. I do not think anyone would dispute the need for a homework computers. Are you always this agressive?
