So, I wonder about this. I have a newly potty-trained 3 year-old (wearing underpants for 5 days). Most days we go to the one playground in walking distance. By walking distance, I mean probably 3/4 mile from our house. It is in a very residential area and there is no public bathroom any closer than our house. We could drive, and maybe with a newly potty-trained kid, I should, but he is also underactive and so this walk to and from the playground is pretty crucial exercise for him. If he has to pee, I take him into the woods to pee. Is that bad?
Exigency circumstances. When my son was newly potty trained we did go outside. Always off in the perimeter, bushes, dirt, etc. no flaunting it and it was clearly an emergency situation. He's now four and can hold it and does hold it. So we walk to a restaurant or hotel or home if we are somewhere without a true public bathroom
