I think the annoyance is (1) having to hear the complaints about the lack of money as if it is something outside their control in combination with (2) watching them spend in a manner that is digging their hole deeper. That is annoying. If they never complained about money or even acknowledged their lack of self control that contributed to the situation and there was a reciprocal exchange of support this would probably not be an issue.
I guess I'm just different than some of you. We benefit from a good HHI and are very conservative with our money. We are budgeters and we buy in cash. However, we have friends of similar income who are always complaining how they are in the hole. We even tease them about their "NothernVA loans", which is the home equity that they always seem to have tapped out. I don't care if they complain that they cannot go to dinner with us because they have any money or what not. We still enjoy their company so we stay home and prepare dinner on the grill. Do you people all just talk about money? Anything else going on in your lives, or is this it? If you feel that you cannot handle your "friends" personal choices then maybe you are not friends? Maybe you should find people and first investigate their balance sheet before scheduling dinner.
