Why didn't Crossfield AAP stay at Hunters Woods and Waples Mill AAP go to Navy? Geographically, that makes more sense.
Two reasons: 1. They want to close HW as a center. The only other center besides Navy in the Oakton HS pyramid will be Mosby Woods. Crossfield is too far from Mosby Woods. 2. Navy has limited capacity for a center. They are going to build up the LLIV at Crossfield. Their hope is that, in time, very few Crossfield students choose the center over LLIV. Since the Waples Mill principal refused to consider a LLIV option at Waples Mill, Navy would be overcrowded with all the Waples Mill kids going there. As for why no LLIV option at Waples Mill, they claim it is capacity reasons. Waples Mill counts on shipping out 30-40 3rd graders each year. What they haven't addressed is what they will do with all those parents who choose Gen Ed at Waples Mill over AAP at Mosby Woods because they don't want to subject their kids to a 1-hour bus ride in the morning. As for switching middle schools, the only MS that is technically in the Oakton HS pyramid is Rachel Carson. If the administration wants to truly put its money where its mouth is, they would send all Oakton HS pyramid students to Rachel Carson.
