Just realized this is an old thread but I have to say this: why are all of you diligently taking that iron, PLUS all the stool softeners, and putting up with the misery? Do you actually have low iron levels? (Man who just reopened the thread seems to actually have some problems) but I have a problem with pregnant women prescribed high iron just "because" or prophylactically. I think it causes real harm. Try harder to get iron from food. If you can't, then consider a lower dose of iron. And probiotics are your friends, people. Plus flax or chia seed.
I am iron-deficient anemic even when not pregnant. When pregnant, a woman's body adds like 2 liters of blood -- that increase in blood volume requires extra iron and not all women can absorb that much from food (even excellent sources like beef liver or shellfish). That said, I have never had an issue with constipation even though I have had to take iron supplements for many years. Poor OP!
