I turn the lights off in a room when I leave it out of habit, but I have no trouble leaving them on during an open house. I do turn them off to see how much natural light the room gets, but I turn them back on. Using the toilet??? Um, when you gotta go, you gotta go. I'm sure you would prefer that I let my 3yo use your toilet rather than let her pee on your floor. I wait until I get home, but my child does not have that sort of control yet. We've toured so many houses now that I even carry tissues with me because many of the vacant homes have no toilet paper in them. I have also changed my 1yo's diaper in houses I've toured, but the dirty diaper always leaves with me.
NP here. From what I read the problem wasn't using the toilet. The problem was not asking first, then using the toilet and leaving the lid up, then leaving the hand towel in the sink. The point is that when you are at an Open House, you should try to leave the house in as close to the same condition as when you arrived. That's just basic courtesy.
Guess you didn't go house hunting with poopy kids then....twice even. ok.
I have gone house hunting with poopy kids. I keep empty gallon ziploc bags in the diaper bag along with the diapers for occasions like this or to dump dirty clothes if I have to change the baby's clothes or any number of other messy events. If I'm changing diapers somewhere where there aren't normally babies and/or the trash may not be picked up same day, then I will deposit the diapers in ziploc bags and toss them out either at a business where the trash is emptied at least once a day (e.g. a restaurant) or at home where we take care of the poopy diapers regularly. If I were to go to an open house and change a dirty diaper, I would probably ask the realtor if they are going to take out the X trash (usually kitchen trash, since the kitchen is where they put cookies, snacks, etc for an open house) and if they are, I'd dump it there or take it with me. I can't imagine leaving a poopy diaper in someone else's house, especially in a side room like the rec room where the trash may not be changed for several days. That's just really obnoxious.
