Have you stopped for a moment to consider that Tyson's Corner malls may be better than the Ballston mall AND that Arlington may be a better place to live than Tyson's? I live 2 miles down the street from Tyson's. We bought there because we couldn't afford Arlington. If we could, we would have bought there. It's convenient to make a quick trip to the mall when I have to, but these considerations don't dictate my housing decisions. How often are you in a mall anyway?
God---I hope nobody is defending Ballston Mall...it's pretty much a running joke around here. I only go for the hockey lessons in the ice rink and go in and out of the ice rink door. The thing is--there isn't a Mall culture in most urban areas. Georgetown Mall is also a complete joke. I used to workout in the gym, but it was the only time I was in there. I'd hit Banana Republic/JCrew/H&M from the street level. Yes. Tysons does have one of the best Malls in the area. I don't use it because I have the same stores closer by in G-town or P-city and I find it less daunting than those huge parking lots--but it's definitely better and my kids recently heard about the 'Lego' store so it will only be a matter of time before I am forced to make the trek out there.
