PPs have made clear that we want kids -- all kids -- to learn about them. But it seems to some of us that a disproportionate amount of time and energy goes into teaching about PC topics (that include these important Americans, and rightly so) to the minimization or even exclusion of other leaders who are ALSO important parts of OUR American history. it doesn't have to be either or (as in EITHER you want your kids to learn about MLK and CC OR you are a racist bigot).
