Honestly, its why high school games are so much more compelling than club games. The highs and the lows. Your friends are in the stands cheering for you, and on the field with you, and for most kids, its the last team they will be on that matters.
This. I am so enjoying my kids' HS sports experiences as a parent. Not a fan of the club stuff.
My daughter was a freshman on a team that made a deep state playoff run. I’ll echo board sentiment that the product on the field is undeniably way worse than club (for girls at least). Even the top teams have so much trouble generating quality on goal. But there really was a fun purity and innocence to it all. When the high school football team comes out to watch a playoff game, just a really cool experience you don’t get in club. And I guess it really was the end of the road for most of those seniors who probably started the sport as near-toddlers. Also now makes me think that many of seniors around the teams played their last game on senior night.
PP and agree that it’s not great soccer, but there’s so much fun around it, who cares? Perhaps my kid’s team is not the norm, but coaches set a great tone. Positivity, respect, sportsmanship, teamwork, all the stuff that really matters.
