She is just a normal person with a pretty normal (for UMC Texas) background aside from her dad and gdad being president. Pretty similar to many other UT sorority girls I know but even more down to earth.
Pretty sure that the Bushes are past UMC at this point.
Well, yes. But this post is about when they were growing up. Her dad was governor in the 90s but they went to Austin High and were normal and had normal friends and she went to UT and was a normal UT student and then worked as a teacher then got into TV.
Lol, they were beyond wealthy even back then. But still, they were old school Republican - out of touch and think things were fine as-is so not great on race issues, but have a huge emphasis on service, love of country, compassion. I am certain you won't find a time that Barbara, Laura, GW, HW, even Jeb were rude or mean to a regular civilian just to be a jerk (not politician). I read What it Takes by Richard Ben Cramer, about the 1988 presidential election. I came away liking George HW Bush and Barbara. What I remember 20 years later is that they wrote thank you cards to everyone and once when HW was a kid, he came home bragging that he won some game, maybe tennis. His mom scolded him because polite people don't brag. That's how they were raised and how they raised their kids. And remember, Laura does not come from a wealthy background. She knew how to raise kids with "middle class values". (I have never voted for any of the Bushes but like many, I would take them over today's leadership any day!)
+1. She may well be a nice person, but they come from generational wealth. That doesn't cease to be true, because she did part of her education at public school.
Yes but the point is - can you imagine any of the Trumps sending their kids to public school? Just being around "regular people" and that means parents interacting with other non-rich people in those settings. It's very different from tht total detachment from the real world that you see today. Even the level of wealth is different - I am sure they and their family friends flew first class or whatever but did they go everywhere on private jets? There's what was considered money back then and Money now from a new set.
If they didn't go on private jets, it's because they didn't want to. I will agree that it's on a different level than the Turmps ($100 mill instead of 1bill??), but who really knows - how much of what the Trumps show is real and also they are showy, so it's hard to say when you compare to an old school rich family that tries to downplay it and also has the capacity to be nice to people just because it's the right thing to do.
When he was Governor of Texas, his net worth was under $20M. That’s not “private jet” kind of rich.
