Dear Jackson-Reed High School Parents and Families,

It is with a heavy heart that I share news of the recent death of one of our students, Brady Flowers. As a senior, Brady was a cherished member of the Jackson-Reed community and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Brady was a bright student who approached his future with determination and purpose. After high school, he expressed a strong interest in serving his community through military service or law enforcement. He loved football and took pride in being part of a team, demonstrating commitment to both the game and his teammates. His warm personality and natural charisma allowed him to form meaningful relationships with classmates and staff. He cared greatly about his family and others in his life. He will be remembered for the kindness and positive energy he brought to the Jackson-Reed community.

This loss will surely raise many emotions, concerns, and questions from across the Jackson-Reed community, and we want to share how we will support everyone during this time. Tomorrow, Monday, May 11, the DC Public Schools (DCPS) Crisis Response Team will be deployed to our school. This team is made up of mental health professionals trained to help with the needs of students, staff, and families during difficult times such as these.

Jackson-Reed’s dedicated wellness team, comprising two school psychologists, six social workers, ten school counselors, and a network of community-based organizations, will also be available to provide a safe space to talk or share their feelings.

The well-being of our students is important, and we are here for our families during this time. Please reach out if we can connect your student with support.
