The whole usually is tiny, no larger than the diameter of a wasp. Hole is much smaller than a dime. Get wasp/hornet spray and spray that as far into the hole as possible in early morning or the evening (when wasps are likely to be in their nest). That spray is toxic on contact to bees, wasps, hornets, etc. I recommend wearing gloves when spraying.
