No way, I love the days off and what they represent. Most secondary parents like them, whether they care about the holidays off or not.
Good to know you don't value education. Most. parents and teacher do.
NP. We do value education. Our kids are taking a lot of AP classes and are using these upcoming 3 days off to prepare. (Monday, Fri and 4/21) We don’t need childcare anymore. We understand why you are so frustrated because it disrupted our kids terribly when they were little as well. Now they can use that time to prepare and study, more similar to what they will do in the near future in college. In college they are not sitting in classrooms for 7 hours M-F.
+1 this exactly. We absolutely love it for our high schooler. They are going to be well prepared for their AP exams!
+ me. High school is when it all counts and kids start owning their own education. Most high schoolers are taking college level classes and exams. This schedule works perfectly for them. I think it works pretty well for elementary STUDENTS as well, just not the parents. I do understand and sympathize, but wish there were a better solution (ex. SACC providing day care on those days).
This is the biggest problem IMO. The county decided to start treating the religious holidays as county holidays too, so now SACC isn't open on those days. Funny how we are still paying the same high prices for less coverage. It would be nice if secondary parents could care about this and help us advocate to the county for SACC to be open on those days. Society and workplace expectations aren't changing just because our school calendar sucks. Not all of us have the kind of job where we can take PTO on random days just because school is closed. It's just another thing adding to our stress in this world.
