+1 We are on a 2nd team like this now at U12. As others have said, its extremely difficult to move up. We don't even get to see the 1st team practice. They get more practices, better coaching and more fitness. Their practices are more intense. We have been w our club for 3 years and they have only moved 1 kid up in 3 years, all the while they have taken 6 outside of club players onto the 1st team. We tried out at 3 other clubs and received 3x 1st team offers. All these clubs are only interested in maintaining a 2nd team roster and never letting players off it. -I thought people were crazy for saying it, but we have seen it 1st hand this year.
+1 If you're on the ARL academy 2 team, your player will never sniff the 1st team.
This isn’t accurate. There’s been many Red/RL girls that have moved to ECNL. Roughly 2 a year. It gets harder every year after U13, but it’s not that rare. The reality is the kid pretty much has to really stand out to get the shot, and then just be solid when getting a chance to guest. The issue with out-of-club kids has nothing to do with money, it’s all about the way that familiarity breeds contempt. New kid comes in to a couple of practices and looks good - sure there might be some missing pieces but the coach is sure that they can fix whatever it is. Meanwhile the RL kid has the same problem, but the ECNL coach just thinks the RL coach can fix it. And if not, well I guess it’s not fixable. But “new kid” it’s easy to imagine that the previous coach just wasn't good enough.
