I thought MCPS is known for grade inflation which detracts from a 4.0. Assume lots of kids at the school have high rigor. Non-recruited athlete is like any other EC and ECs are "solid" but not more. Independent research doesn't mean much without a result (published, etc.) so the SAT seems to be the strongest thing in the app., along with good grades at a school where many have good grades from what I understand. I hope this kid gets in somewhere amazing, but one day the class of 2027 or beyond will read posts like this and this may help someone else in deciding where to lay hopes.
