I had to pay off my parents PLUS loans too, as well as my deseral loans.  I think the difference here is that nobody actually took out any loans.  I wonder if the ILs are not on as stable financial footing as they project and that's why they want their DD to "pay them back"?  I find this aspect of the situation weird.  The rest is whatever, OP can always decline the fancy dinners and vacations.[/quote]
