Before the big reveal, I turned to my husband and joked "I bet he got the leg lengthening surgery" because it would be a ridiculous plot point.   And it is.

BUT! I think the point was his character was so picky he didn't want the type of woman who would be thrilled with a rich, short guy with a good personality (she'd likely be short or chubby or not drop dead gorgeous).  He was just pragmatic enough to realize his expectations were higher than what he could get naturally. Which her picky clients didn't get.

I don't think it was pickiness: it was a lack of self-esteem. Because if you look around in life a lot of short men have absolutely gorgeous, smart, amazing wives. He just could not see it happening and it's a shame because he would have gotten a much better woman and not a shallow one.[/quote]
