My bonus daughter and I did this for Thanksgiving one year - last minute- scoured local Targets and all the men were wearing the same plaid shirt (4-5 of them).  It was goofy, but fun and harmless.   And easy enough for us to give husbands/boyfriends a shirt and say "I got you this - why don't you wear it today".

But I can see this not working with certain people.

So I'd just drop it OP - those of you who want to it can have fun, and the others won't care they aren't included.
