Why cant they use metal detectors.
What was Chief Jones response?
Honestly Jones has an impossible task. He’s got people screaming “do something” about safety in schools, he’s got parents who rabidly want metal detectors and others who vehemently do not, budget constraints, staff constraints, mostly lovely kids and families but a few bad apples who can obviously spoil the bunch, kids who are scared to speak up for legitimate reasons, people who want SROs, people who don’t, and a school district that plays musical chairs with students with violent backgrounds rather than figuring out a more appropriate placement for kids in need of different support and supervision. He was offered this pilot for free and it seems as though MCPS did their typical echo chamber assessment thinking they’ve thought through everything and this could be a useful tool in the toolkit, but didn’t realize there are a lot of questions and concerns they should think through. There is no single solution that could prevent every unique scenario, which is scary and upsetting.
LOL. Thanks Chief Jones. You work for a public school system. You aren’t supposed to be signing contracts under the table without authorization from the Board of Education. Start by following the law and stop complaining.
Where is the reporting on this? Students and staff outrage?
I mean, everything anyone does around here is met with outrage. This area has the most unhappy people ever.
Nah, the area has the most people who know how to call it out . It's a PUBLIC school system.
People here are high achieving folks and expect their public representatives to be the same. Excuses are just that. They don’t solve the underlying problems - just deflect, obfuscate, and distract with the hope voters have short memories.
That is their miscalculation
