I’m just coming back to this thread and saw some of you got crazy triggered by my Hollister comment! I had no idea it made such an impression. I was only giving a suggestion on where to look for a winter coat for a teen. I’ve never gone skiing in my life and call any winter coat a ski coat. Obviously this is offensive to people who ski. That mistake won’t happen again. Sorry, ski community. Winter fashion coats are not ski coats. Got it.
Even if you haven't skied in your life, you should know that any winter coat is not a ski coat. Skiing is exercise and usually a jacket you wear for it is thinner and more sporty, allowing for movement. There are so many everyday winter coats: down, parkas, shorter and longer, all for different purposes and climates. It's the same for any activity, swimming or marathon running, you wear clothes made for it not just random daily wear stuff. That said, nothing's wrong with Hollister -- my teen also wears one to school. If that's too cheap for some, too bad, so sad. You do not want to wear a ski jacket to school with its powder skirt.
