Every school DOES do something different. And within one building different people will give different answers. For example, there is one MSMC where the Math RT said in an email reply about math placement that ALL 5th graders in compacted math get placed in pre-Algebra. The rising grade 6 counselor verbally told a family during the Welcome Night that all students get placed based on their grade 5 math teacher recs.

So it is different!

My SIL reached out to even central office and math curriculum content department all she was told was “ MCPS dont encourage acceleration beyond a norm.” But when asked about Frost , she was told that Frost school administration encourages it but not all the middle schools. And most MS have set up high criteria to enter Algebra 1 in 6 th grade. But Frost criteria for MAP -M for Algebra 1 is much lower than other MS.
