I am perplexed. DD IS 95% straight A’s. Not even wait pool for any program. Feel like all the kids that won the elementary lottery at the age of 9 were funneled into magnet Ms at 12, then onto magnet HS How are other kids going to have a shot at these curriculum?
This. Kids who got into CES (which is really hard to earn the spot) receives enriched program (usually they also do Compact math, have family support + extracurriculars) goes on to Magnet MS with HIGH and advanced math with tutoring if necessary, and they are the 99%ers who gets accepted into the criteria based High School program. It’s not fair for the kids who never had the chance to get enrichments between those years.
Nope. They were already 99%ile before they went to CES, and HIGH and Advanced English is available at non Magnet MS anyway. And it's not unfair to not be dropped in a HS class that the student isn't prepared for and is unwilling to do the work for, as evidenced by choosing not to do any of the multitude of free enrichment available before high school.
Not sure what delusion you’re living in. If your kid is academically qualified, but does not win the lottery at 9 or 12, they do NOT get the enrichment those in magnets do. & if their iq does not correlate to their ability to test exceptionally they won’t even be screened magnets.
If your kid can't even crack the top 10% to get screened, how do you think the magnet will help them? Everyone can get plenty of enrichment for free at Khan Academy. Free lessons, free homework, even free tutoring
