Our ped is happy with 10 hours, which seems to fall within the standard rec (9-12) for this age. https://jcsm.aasm.org/doi/10.5664/jcsm.5866 Ten hours of sleep would mean the kid has to be asleep by 8:15. Assuming it takes him 20-30 minutes to fall asleep, lights out is 7:45. Your kid may need more or less time, but if you're not sure where to start, it's a solid initial target.
+1 This feels like a decent starting spot, in the absence of other information. What are his current sleeping hours? Does he seem tired or well rested? That feels like key information here. If he gets up at 6:15 and currently has lights out at 7:45 and is tired all the time, well, then pull bedtime earlier. If he's currently getting up at 7:15am and going to bed at 8:15pm and seems well rested, and now needs to get up at 6:15am... well, bedtime needs to be 7:15pm. I also agree with a previous poster that sleep is like three meals a day and vaccinations - non-negotiable.
