OP back with an update as updates were helpful when I was deciding what path to take. Have been on oral monoxidil for 11 weeks. I take a generic which costs $2/month. Hair loss: The volume of hair I have lost has decreased so dramatically. Before, I would pull hair from my shower drain catch after each shampoo and de-shed my brush daily. Now I have maybe 8-10 hairs shed while I am drying my hair. New hair growth: Nothing noticeable on my head though my doctor said it would take 6 months or more most likely to notice regrowth. Other hair growth: Definitely have more chin hairs to pluck and I use a tiny razor for fuzz on upper lip. My eyebrows seem to be growing faster too, have to get them waxed every three weeks now instead of four. Lashes also seem to be growing which has been a pleasant surprise. I have not had hair growth on other parts of my body than face. Side effects: surprisingly none. I was prepping for the "dread shred" but either it happened when I was still losing a lot of hair after I started or did not happen. No weight gain. No dizziness. No fluid retention. Other notes: I saw my GP who checked my scalp and did an echocardiogram a few weeks after I started the meds. I also had blood draws to check levels and labs are all good so no underlying condition causing the hair loss. Just good old female pattern baldness, stress and being middle aged. Yay. I did not want to take the topical OTC or Rx because I have had dry scalp in the past and did not want to exacerbate it and I also have a cat who sleeps with me (topical is toxic to cats). Also, my issue was thinning kind of all over; no bald spots or hairline receding or issues that may be more difficult to mask. I am hopeful there is some regrowth for volume but even if there is zero and this pill just helps me from the massive hair loss I was experiencing all summer and fall, it will be worth it.
Thanks for the update!
