I'd be interested in hearing anyone's experience with this event if it's been held in the past. Is the purpose to more or less recruit those students? It would seem awkward to invite a student to learn more about the program and then not invite them to the program come admission time.
My DC went to the seminar last year and it seemed as if everyone there would be invited to join the program. I had heard that being invited was not a sure bet that a kid was accepted into the program, but the tone seemed more congratulatory and informative than weeding out applicants. There was a welcome speech from school leadership, a presentation by the Scholars Department head, and some parent and student panels. Nothing fancy but your family should attend if interested. BTW, DC was offered academic scholarships at all schools they applied to and ended up choosing SJC for Scholars, as well as their band and Cadets programs. So far so good!
